Perhaps our favorite time of the year in Jackson Hole is the last week of September and the first week of October. You’ll see why after seeing Julie and Mitchel’s elopement day from October 1st!
There’s no bad time of year in the Tetons, but the colors, the crispness of the air, the wildlife, and the lighting all make the fall hard to beat.
We met Julie and Mitchel at the National Park Visitor Center and after meeting them and chatting for a couple minutes we had them follow us to Jenny Lake for the first look. After arriving at Jenny Lake we walked in to a good spot on the shoreline and they both got dressed before we got into the first look and some gorgeous photos.

Hike up to Taggart Lake
From Jenny Lake we bounced over to the Taggart Lake trailhead to prepare for our hike to the ceremony spot. The hike up to Taggart is stunning in the fall with the fall colors and the prime lighting on the mountains. It’s not a hard hike at all and it makes for a perfect wedding day hike if you want to do something adventurous but not too strenuous.

Ceremony at Taggart
Once we made it to the lake, Julie and Mitchel took a few minutes to freshen up and take in the scenery before we began the ceremony. Matt ended up officiating the ceremony and stood off to the side of them so he wasn’t blocking the view or distracting from them. When it’s just the couple or a small group, Matt is able to officiate for our couples free of charge if they wish, and if they choose to do this then Lauren shoots all of the photos during the ceremony. Both of us shoot photo during the ceremony if our couples choose to hire an officiant or do a self-run ceremony.
Julie and Mitchel ended up exchanging touching personal vows and then sealed the deal with a ring exchange and a first kiss!

Photos at The Lake
After the ceremony they took in the mountains and the moment for a few minutes and then we captured some couples photos and individual photos of them.

Hike back down
After capturing some photos at the lake and letting them take it all in for a bit, it was time to head back down to the trailhead to go to a couple more spots for epic photos.
There’s multiple great photo opportunities on the hike back down so we always like to hike in front on the way back so we can turn around periodically to snap pictures.

Champagne and Cake
After the hike we headed to another spot where Julie and Mitchel could have some privacy while they ate some cake and celebrated with some champagne. When they were done with their cake and drinks we snapped a couple more quick photos. They even got a pretty sweet heel click in!

Wall Hanger Photos
From there we headed to one of the spots that we call a “wall hanger” spot to get some final dramatic photos where the mountains looked huge and Julie and Mitchel looked small. The timing was perfect with the sun setting over the mountains!
After capturing the final photos it was time to send them on their way to dinner and say our goodbyes. We had such a blast with these two and we can’t think of a more intimate and gorgeous elopement day for them. Congrats to Julie and Mitchel, may their marriage be filled with boundless adventures and laughs!
